about us

We are building the easiest way to find something to do — and someone to do it with.

What Joyn is

Joyn is a hyperlocal activity and meetup app for urban India that helps you find real plans happening near you — badminton games, morning runs, weekend treks, yoga and fitness classes, workshops, city walks, comedy nights and coworking days — and the verified people hosting them. Profiles are verified with a selfie liveness check, which is required to host restricted plans and to join women-only plans; hosts carry public reliability and attendance scores, and plans can be kept approval-only or women-only. Joyn is free, is not a dating app, and is currently in early access on Android, opening one Indian city at a time.

Why we are building it

Indian cities are dense and lonely at the same time. You can live in a building with two hundred flats and still have nobody to play with on a Saturday morning. People move cities for work, leave their college friends behind, work remotely, and slowly discover that adult life has no default way of meeting anyone.

The things that do exist are closed. Plans live inside WhatsApp groups you have to be invited to, inside a run club's private circle, inside somebody's college batch. If you are not already in, there is no door. And the open alternatives ask you to meet a stranger from the internet with nothing to go on — no identity check, no track record, no way to tell whether the person will even turn up.

Joyn exists to open that door without lowering the bar. Plans are public and joinable. The people behind them are verified and carry a history. And if you would rather keep a plan small, approval-only and women-only options are there from the start.

How we think about it

Trust before scale

Profiles are verified with a selfie liveness check, so the person in the photo is the person who shows up, and women-only plans admit only verified women. Hosts carry a public reliability and attendance score built from plans they actually ran. Nobody has to take a stranger on faith.

Plans, not feeds

Joyn is not a place to scroll. It is a place to find the 7am run on Thursday, the Sunday trek, the beginners' pottery class two kilometres away — and then to actually go.

One city at a time

A meetup app with nothing happening in it is worse than no app. We open city by city, and only once there are enough credible hosts and real plans to make the first week worth someone's time.

What we built first

We are a product team, not a marketplace operator. That shows up in the details we chose to build first: selfie liveness verification, host reliability and attendance scores, approval-only private plans, women-only plans limited to verified women, group chat that never exposes a phone number, private safety check-ins, recurring series for regular hosts, and shareable plan pages.

How Joyn makes money

Today, it does not. Joyn is free to join and free to host, there is no paid tier, and we do not sell member data. Paid tickets for hosts who charge for their classes and trips are the first thing we plan to build; payments are not live yet. When they launch, the host sets the price, the member sees Joyn's platform fee before paying, an RBI-authorised payment aggregator collects the money, and the host is paid after the session has taken place. Free plans stay free. Details are on the pricing and trust pages.
