Why we have guidelines

Joyn is where strangers become acquaintances and acquaintances become friends — at a badminton court, a cafe, a trek, an open mic. None of that works if the space feels unsafe, fake, or transactional.

These guidelines are the house rules. They apply to everything you do on Joyn — your profile, the activities you create, the conversations you have, and the way you behave when you show up in person.

Breaking them has real consequences, from a warning up to a permanent ban. In serious cases, we involve law enforcement.

Be yourself

• Use your real name or a recognisable shortened version. No fake personas.
• Upload a clear photo of your actual face. No cartoons, no celebrities, no deepfakes, no 10-year-old photos.
• Be honest about your age. Joyn is strictly 18+. Accounts misrepresenting age will be removed, and where relevant, reported.
• If you run an event business, a brand, or a professional service, you are welcome — but you must clearly identify yourself as such. No pretending to be a casual user to advertise.

Show up

• If you join a plan, turn up. If plans change, cancel early and say why. Attendance data is visible to hosts — chronic no-shows lose access to join plans.
• Be on time. If the plan says 6 pm, arrive at 6 pm.
• If you're the host, actually host — be there, be welcoming, make sure people find each other.
• Follow through on shared costs (court fees, food, cabs). Not paying your share is a form of disrespect and grounds for removal.

Treat people well

We expect you to behave the way you would at a friend's dinner party. Specifically:

• No harassment. That means no unwanted flirting, no following someone around, no pressure to share personal info, no demands for personal contact after the plan.
• No hate. Slurs, stereotypes, or hostility based on religion, caste, race, gender, sexuality, disability, region, or appearance will get you removed immediately.
• Respect consent. Physical contact, photographs of others, sharing others' contact details — always ask first. A "no" means no without explanation.
• Respect the plan's purpose. A coffee meetup is a coffee meetup, not a date. A trek is a trek, not a networking pitch. Don't hijack someone else's plan for your own agenda.

What's not allowed on Joyn

The following will get content removed and, depending on severity, get you suspended or permanently banned.

Safety red lines

• Sexual, predatory, or otherwise inappropriate approaches, especially toward women, LGBTQ+ users, or anyone vulnerable.
• Physical threats, intimidation, or violence — on the app or at a meetup.
• Sharing, soliciting, or encouraging sexual content.
• Activities aimed at meeting minors or anyone who appears to be under 18.
• Stalking, doxxing, or sharing someone's private information without permission.
• Weapons, drugs, self-harm content, or glorification of violence.
• Human trafficking, forced labour, or prostitution solicitation in any form.

Deception

• Impersonating another person, including public figures.
• Fake, duplicate, or bot accounts.
• Spoofing location to appear closer than you are.
• Catfishing — misrepresenting age, gender, photos, or intent to lure someone to a meetup.
• Pretending an activity is free when there's a hidden cost or a sales pitch waiting.

Spam and solicitation

• Mass-DM-style activity spam.
• Cryptocurrency promotions, forex trading pitches, MLMs, "business opportunity" recruitment.
• Paid promotions, sponsored plans, or brand events without explicit written permission from Joyn. Email hello@joynhub.com if you have a legitimate commercial use case — we're open to partnerships, just need them declared.
• Repetitive off-topic content.
• Plans whose real purpose is to collect phone numbers or emails.

Platform abuse

• Scraping profiles, crawling activity data, or using automated scripts.
• Circumventing bans, blocks, throttles, or verification requirements.
• Using another user's account, or sharing yours.
• Interfering with the Service (e.g. spamming reports, intentionally breaking features).

Photos and content

• Every photo you upload should be yours or used with clear permission.
• Don't post other people's faces without asking them first.
• No children in profile photos or activity photos unless it's strictly a family-friendly event and you're the parent or guardian. Even then, minors' faces should be blurred for publicly visible content.
• No nudity, no underwear shots, no content designed to titillate.
• No screenshots of private conversations.

Location and meetup conduct

• Meet in public, well-lit, accessible places — especially for first-time activities.
• Don't invite strangers to your home, hotel, or private residence for a first meetup. Don't accept such invitations.
• If someone insists on meeting somewhere private on the first interaction, report it.
• If a meetup involves alcohol, be mindful — don't pressure anyone to drink, don't accept drinks you didn't see poured, and look out for each other.
• If a meetup involves physical activity (sports, trek), disclose hazards honestly in the plan description.
• The host is responsible for accurately describing the plan. Misleading descriptions (wrong location, wrong activity, hidden cost) are a removable offence.

Reviews and reputation

After an activity, you can review the experience.

• Be specific and honest. "Great host, clearly explained the rules" is useful. "Was okay" is not.
• Don't retaliate. Leaving a bad review because someone rejected you, blocked you, or disagreed with you is a form of harassment.
• Don't coordinate reviews. Encouraging friends to leave inflated reviews, or swap reviews, will trigger removal.
• Focus on the activity, not the person's appearance. Never comment on someone's body, clothing, or attractiveness.
• We may remove reviews that violate these guidelines, and reserve the right to disable reviewing for accounts that misuse it.

Reporting and blocking

If something goes wrong:

1. Use the in-app report button. It's on every profile and every activity. Include specifics — what happened, when, who.
2. Block the user. This is instant and bidirectional. Neither of you will see the other again on the platform.
3. In serious cases, contact law enforcement directly. We'll cooperate with lawful requests.

What happens after you report:

• Reports are acknowledged within 48 hours and investigated within 15 days, per the Terms of Service and IT Rules, 2021.
• We never reveal the reporter's identity to the reported user.
• False reports — filed to harass, retaliate, or flood — are themselves a violation and can lead to action against the reporter.

Appeals

If you believe we suspended or banned you in error, email grievance@joynhub.com with:

• your registered phone number,
• the date of the action,
• your account of what happened.

Appeals are reviewed within 15 days by someone who wasn't involved in the original decision. We'll explain the reasoning where we can — but for safety reasons, we won't always disclose details about reporters.

Changes to these guidelines

We update these guidelines as Joyn grows and as new edge cases emerge. We'll flag meaningful changes in the app. These guidelines are incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service — breaking them breaks the Terms.
