What this policy covers
This page says what gets an account removed from Joyn, what gets a warning, how long a deactivation lasts, and how to challenge one.
It applies to everyone with a Joyn account — members and hosts alike — and to what you do on the app, in chat, and in person at a plan you found here. The Community Guidelines say how to behave. This page says what happens when you do not.
Two ideas run through everything below. Small mistakes get a conversation. Anything that puts a person's body, money or identity at risk ends the account.
Off Joyn permanently, on the first finding
Three things end an account the first time we find them, with no strike, no warning and no second chance:
- Violence or the threat of it. Assault, physical intimidation, stalking, or a credible threat made to anyone you met through Joyn.
- Sexual misconduct. Any sexual contact without consent, sexual harassment, sexual content sent to someone who did not ask for it, or any sexual approach to a person you know to be under 18.
- Impersonation. Using someone else's identity, face or documents to pass a check, lending a verified account to another person, or hosting under a name that is not yours.
A finding here is permanent. We remove the account, refund any tickets the person sold or bought where money moved through Joyn, tell the people affected what they need to know to stay safe, and — where a crime may have been committed — report it to the police and keep the records for them.
You may appeal the identity behind a finding: that we matched the wrong account, the wrong person, the wrong report. You cannot appeal the outcome itself. If it was you, and it happened, that is the end of it.
Strikes, for everything else
Everything short of the three above runs on strikes. A strike stays on the account for 12 months and then falls off.
What earns a strike
- No-showing a plan you joined, or cancelling a plan you host inside 24 hours, more than once in a month.
- Rudeness, slurs, or persistent messaging after someone has asked you to stop.
- Pushing a sale, a course, an MLM, or a fundraise at a plan that was not described that way.
- Taking payment off Joyn for a plan you listed on Joyn.
- Showing up drunk enough or high enough to make the plan unsafe for others.
- A profile that misleads: an old photo, a borrowed one, a bio that claims a qualification you do not hold.
- Joining a plan that was restricted to a gender you are not verified as.
- Filing reports you know to be false.
What each strike costs
| Strike | What happens |
|---|---|
| First | A written warning naming what happened, and what to do differently. |
| Second | 7 days deactivated. You cannot join, host, message or be discovered. |
| Third | 30 days deactivated, and hosting stays off for 90 days after you return. |
| Fourth | Permanent. The account is closed. |
A single incident that is serious but not in the zero-tolerance list — a theft, a scam, a plan run at an address the host hid from everyone — can be worth two strikes or an immediate permanent close. When we do that, the notice says why.
Hosts carry two extra rules. Payouts freeze on the second strike and stay frozen until the strike falls off or is overturned, and a host who is deactivated has every upcoming plan cancelled and every ticket refunded in full.
A hold while we look into a report
Some reports place the account on hold the moment they are filed, before anyone has decided anything. That happens for reports of assault, harassment, threats, scams, theft, injury, a missing person, a minor present, a breach of a gender-restricted plan, or payment taken off Joyn.
A hold means: the account cannot host or join, direct messages between the two people stop, a host's payouts and pricing freeze, and the records are preserved so nothing ages out while the matter is open.
A hold is not a finding. We aim to decide within 7 days, and within 48 hours where someone may still be in danger. If the report does not hold up, the hold lifts, nothing goes on the record as a finding, and any frozen payout is released.
Appealing
You have 30 days from the notice to appeal, and one appeal per decision.
Write to grievance@joynhub.com from the phone number or email on the account. Say what you think we got wrong and attach anything that shows it — messages, receipts, photos, the names of people who were there.
A person who was not part of the original decision reads it. We reply within 15 days. If the appeal succeeds, the strike or the closure is removed, the record is corrected, and any frozen money is released. If it does not, the reply says why, in plain terms.
A permanent close for violence, sexual misconduct or impersonation can be appealed only on identity — that the account or the person was misidentified.
If our answer does not satisfy you, the Grievance Officer route in the Privacy Policy is open to you, and so is the Data Protection Board of India for anything about your data.
The record is permanent, and a new number does not clear it
When an account is closed for safety reasons, the safety record survives the account: the report, the finding, the decision, and enough about the person to recognise them again. We keep it for as long as we run Joyn.
That is deliberate. A ban that a new SIM card defeats is not a ban. We match a returning banned person on the identity checks they already passed, on their face, on their phone number, and on the device. Re-registering after a permanent close is itself a breach of the Terms, and the new account is closed on sight.
Everything else about a closed account follows the retention periods in the Privacy Policy. We are not keeping your chat history to punish you; we are keeping the fact of a finding so the next person is safe.
When the law asks
Police, a court, or an authority acting under a written requisition can ask us for records about an account. We check who is asking before we produce anything, we produce only what the request covers, and we log every disclosure. Emergencies where someone's life is at risk are answered first.
We do not notify a person of a law-enforcement request against them unless the order allows it. The full route, the address requests must arrive at, and the Grievance Officer's details are in the Privacy Policy.
Talk to us
If you have been deactivated and do not understand why, write to grievance@joynhub.com and quote the date of the notice. For anything else, hello@joynhub.com reaches a person.
If you are reporting something that happened to you and you are not sure it rises to any of the above — report it anyway. We would rather read a report that goes nowhere than miss one that mattered.
